Back to School Cleaning Tips

When the kids head back to school it is time for everyone to have to adjust schedules a bit.
From Bed times to cleaning up, things will change.
It is a great time to get a head start on fall cleaning. The simplest way is to vision an area at a time and concur it! You might even want to break it down even more. Say you want to tackle the living room, break it into pieces, such as dusting the entertainment center, cleaning the windows, etc. It makes it much easier to tackle the room and not feel overwhelmed.
Of course it will also be time to get your carpets cleaned. Carpets tend to be the dirtiest after a summer of the kids being home. We drag in 80% of the dirt in our house on our feet! 80%!! YUCK
Did you know that your carpet can hide up to 7 lbs of dirt per square yard!! Double YUCK
The best way to combat the dirt in your home is to stay on top of it and not let it build up. Vacuuming is a must, even if you have wood, tile floors, where do you think all that dirt goes? For every person you have in your household is how many times a week you should vacuum your carpet. IE: 4 people in the house, vacuum 4 times per week. If you have animals you have to vacuum more.
Vacuuming alone will not keep your carpet completely cleaned. It only removes 70-80% off the dirt and debris. And that is if you vacuum on the recommend scale. That other 30-20% is just sitting at the base of your fibers, acting as sandpaper each time in it walked over.
The next step is to make sure you keep it professionally cleaned.
Depending upon the number of people in your home and the number of pets you have determines how often you should have your carpet professionally cleaned by an IICRC certified carpet cleaner. Those 7.95 per room bait and switch carpet cleaners are NOT the answer. Choose someone qualified and trust worthy, after all they are coming in YOUR home. Creating a relationship with a trusted company should be top priority. Having your carpet professionally cleaned will prolong the life of your carpet. Replacing carpet is not cheap and if you can get an additional 5-10 years out of your carpet equals cha-ching in your pocket!
You should have your carpet cleaned at least annually and if your have children and pets 2-3 times a year.

Why Should I Clean My Carpets?

There was a time that people only cleaned their carpets or thought they needed to clean them when they saw that they were dirty. That is a myth that needs education.

Beat The Heat

In Florida the temperatures can heat 100 easily in the summer. It is hard to stay cool when juggling work, home, yard work, sports. The key to staying ahead of the heat game is water. PLENTY of water, young and old alike must stay hydrated. Heat stroke can happen very quickly.

Think You Only Had A “little water intrusion”? Think Again!!!!

Most people do not realize the damage water can do if not properly dried. You make think that all that was affected as a small area but upon inspection by a certified professional, time and time again, the damage is more than the naked eye can see. Drywall acts as a wick and absorbs the water at a rapid rate, something you may not notice for some time (usually when mold appears). Then there is the leak that happened on your wood floors (or manufactured wood), what you think was just a 3x3 area may actually be the entire house, as the water flows under the barrier  throughout the structure. How about the water you clean up in front of your kitchen cabinets only to determine that it actually leaked under the cabinets. Then you have large structures that may have many layers of drywall, how can you be sure they are all dry? Once again, the only way is to make sure you hire an IICRC certified professional. They have the proper equipment to test your structure.
